The real heroes of life are not those who face their adversities
without fear, but those who feel the fear, and weep the tears,
and do what they have to do anyway
The brave heart is not one which does not flutter and quiver
in the face of temptation, or whose soul is not in a quandary
when faced with two choices, both of which may be desirable, but one who is clear on his values and does not sacrifice temporary pleasures for long-term goals
Alfred North Whitehead mused, “Value is limitation.”
The best way to lose everything is to insist on having it all now
It is well, before you jump the fence where the field is broader
and the grass is greener, and the flowers more colorful and
fragrant, perhaps you should fertilize and tend your own little
plot of ground, and you will discover that it is not as barren as
as you thought it was
Doing what is our right to do often obscures what is the right
thing to do
Seldom do we go into that good night filled with heaven’s stars
and gentle breezes to refresh ourselves, but into that ornate
building where superficial people congregate indulging in meaningless conversation, superfluous laughter and dissonant
noise masquerading as music
He who abuses his body also by so doing abuses his spirit. And
both body and spirit are reprimanded
The wise words of a song which all of us would do well to follow is: “Do what is right, let the consequence follow.”
When we are plunged into a quagmire of uncertainty and confusion over our inability to live our ideals let us remember the many gifts of grace, and that grace constitutes love tied with a ribbon of mercy
To live life to the full does not mean we spend all our time in a
garden of roses with Pollyanna, but jousts with windmills with
Don Quixote
The inexorable rule of life is the onerous teaching of character,
not self-indulgence in a life of ease, which produces dolts
Grace is the attempt of God to complete the poem of life. And guess what! We are invited to be the poet
Why do we spend most of our lives and treasure in putting ourselves to sleep instead of arousing our faculties? Gurdjieff observed that most people are asleep dreaming they are awake. That doesn’t apply to you though, does it?
