We need to develop a new consciousness which sees life as training,
discipline, and awakening. If we rebel against our training, we forfeit
an optimal existence

The present is developmental editing of the past, and preparation for a more glorious future

The purpose of a church is to be a means to a higher end,
not the end itself

A regnant, meaningful life, filled with grandeur and beauty,
can never emerge out of fear-based conformity to doctrines

Learning to live with uncertainty and honestly admitting one’s doubts, is paradoxically the harbinger of undoing those uncertainties and those doubts

I find it rather amusing how man can allow his technology
to control him, rather than he controlling it

Is our wondrous technology a terrible master, or is it a humble
tool we use to enhance our productivity while not allowing it
to reduce our personhood

It is an obvious truth that the world we live in is material.
But, it is not the whole truth

Our capacity to suffer is a testimony
of the godliness in our humanness

There are many conflicting attractions vying for our allegiance.
To pursue them all is not the inclusiveness we think it is, but
assures a life that is fragmented and ambiguous, and we will
become mere dilettantes and never get to know any one thing
well

Not all things bright and beautiful, not all things wise and
wonderful, not all things nice and appealing, are good for
us because they obscure the dark side, lull us into a false
sense of security believing the niceties are the whole of it

Participating in the common, ordinary, mundane tasks of life, but
doing it with finesse and charm, is part of our spiritual journey

The constant search for ecstasies, new paths to follow or
popular satisfactions will not only lessen our spiritual
development but sabotage our human becoming

If you grow weary in accomplishing your goal, as sometimes you will,
and thoughts of easier possibilities enter your mind, perhaps you are
being distracted from your divine purpose. At such times it is well to
remember the poetic words of Sophocles: “One must wait until the
evening to see how splendid the day has been.”

The impetus of soul to connect with Soul is the supreme
affinity. To obey that calling is to align one’s self to the highest and best.
To ignore it, or to denigrate it is to be less than we can be

The Supreme Soul beckons to that which it loves. But if you don’t
want it, it will grant your request

Endurance, not the final solutions to all our problems, is
our purpose and calling

Not what we make of our mortal senses is our only task in life, but what we make of our spiritual selves

Our welcome Home involves not only a handshake, but an
Embrace

One of the problems with atheists, and there are many, are their penchant
for interpreting the world’s processes as its ultimate end

Language is impotent to express the totality of reality

Most religions are man-made, and are copious with creeds which are a
distraction to divinity

To judge a principle or a cause false because of the human weaknesses of its advocates constitutes an utter failure to recognize purity
in the midst of impurities. Would one throw the baby out with the
bathwater

One must not equate the lofty principles of true religion with the
tyrannical effects of religiosity

Life is a harsh taskmaster, but she asks no more than what
man in his most noble propensities can handle. And even excel
at

The supernal joys of a divine world are available and accessible in this life, this world, this Now, to all those who honesty seek
them and are prepared to detect them and accept them

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

The discords of humanity lie in its failure to detect and utilize the
divine in the universe, especially the divine in themselves

The lack of love severely toxifies the world. Such a lamentable
condition does not disprove the existence of God, but rather is
proof of the immaturity of man, and a challenge for him to wake up

Universal laws and principles continue to be what they are
and have their indubitable effects, positive or negative, in spite of man’s unintelligent intellection

Those caught in the web of the passionately diabolic cannot disenchant the enchanting, nor overcome those who quietly assent to the still, small voice
of supernal truth within

What is eloquently elegant may be ignored and even made fun of and
criticized, but it cannot be stifled, and waits patiently for a special
sensitivity to match its own

To be a detective of the truth, to be a seeker after joy, to be a pathfinder of the superlative, to be a personification of love, is to be the
embodiment of divinity. And to be divine is to be fully human

When at last you have discovered your true self you will
have discovered beauty

There is an inner and an outer, matter and spirit, the
natural and the supernatural. They are not separate, but all linked together

Here is the secret of the ages – every advance of our humanness
is voluntary; it is not forced upon us. But to disallow this special gift of grace is to lose a precious opportunity

We are never damned by God. We are damned by ourselves

If we were aware of the consequences of our choices, would
we really choose to be less than we are

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

There is divinity pervading throughout waiting to touch
those sensitive enough to desire it, and persistent enough
to acquire it

Isn’t it interesting that man at his best concocts multitudes
of theologies and philosophies to explain what he senses and yearns for
but cannot see

How do you account for all this lavish fecundity so
prevalent on the earth

Isn’t it obvious to you by now that the intangible things
of life are more potent than the obvious

Why do we live in such a world surrounded by opportunities
but fail to take advantage of them

We look so closely at the appearance of things and fail
to observe the essence of things

Nature honors her own lavish creations, but her greatest
creation, man, does not honor her

Man pays tribute to himself, but he does not honor
himself. And yet there is nothing more honorable

Though evil in the world may rouse its raucous protestations
and its subtle temptations and capture the unwary, it cannot eliminate the noetic sense of the humble knower.

Evil can deceive the gullible, and it can make fine appealings
to those who are unclear of their values, and is very adept at challenging our
beliefs, but it cannot finally overrule the dictates of a higher intelligence

Can the unholy possibly ascertain the holy

What the true mystic knows, and we are all mystics in potentia,
he knows, not just in the cells of his brain, but in the labyrinthine
depths of his soul

The price for wisdom is very high. The spiritual journey is not
easy and generally requires that we go through a whole host
of tragic events. There is so much in life that our most
intelligent pondering and analysis cannot understand; we just
have to let it go. Otherwise we become so frozen in the past
that we cannot re-make our future

What we can be is a predictor of possibilities, but is not a guarantor, of what we will be. When we realize this, let us realize too that the race is not to the swift, but to them that endure

We need to develop a philosophy of failure as well as success, for it is such a frequent, and paradoxically, a necessary part of our lives. It too, has its positive as well as its negative meanings

If after all the hard climbing and breathless breathings you
still have not achieved your goal and others seem to have
passed you by, just pause for a moment and remember that
God does not balance his books on Friday

It is the quest, not the phenomena around the quest, that
is important

When the evening of your life arrives, and your steps become slow and hesitant, and you at last lay you down to sleep for the last time, may you hear this gentle refrain, “Well done, thou good and
faithful servant.”

The main responsibility every one of us has in this
life is to elevate our consciousness

Each one of us are treasure houses, and has down deep in the labyrinths of our souls, knowledge, truth, goodness, and wisdom we do not realize is there. But it is according to our will that it rises to the top, or stays buried

What we know so absolutely that we turn it into an eternal verity, may with further enlightenment be only a surface or incomplete knowing based on faulty assumptions

When we judge ourselves, or another, often we take into account the worst moments and ignore the best

We are not just our name, or our occupation, or our role – that is an identity, but it is not a person

We are entities of dormancy waiting to be a revelation

We can see the events which surround us, we can remember the past which reveals what we were, but we cannot see the process which invisibly marks what we are becoming

What one was, or appears to have been in a given moment, is
not what one is now, or is in the process of becoming, for as one
astutely observed, we are not only human beings; we are human
becomings

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Have you ever shaken your head in utter consternation and wondered why some people work so hard to succeed and fail anyway, and some people just apparently fall into success with little trying? It is not that they are more gifted than you but that this is not your
world. That you are not seen for what you are does not mean you are
invisible but that some who look lack vision

You are not here merely to help yourself, but also to help others, if they allow it. And what if they won’t? Then realize they are not ready, and when they are, if they are, they will find their teacher,
and it may not be you

It is not so important that you be the teacher, but that
the student be taught

Helen Keller was asked one time if loss of sight was the worst
thing that could happen to you. She paused momentarily in thought, and then said: “No! The worst thing that can happen to you is to be able to see but have no vision.” Alas, in this world there are many who have eyes but do not see, ears but do not hear, minds but do not understand

Being a disappointed idealist does not mean one should be
a cynic. To think so means one validates his philosophy more
than his ideals

Someday, when life is shorn of its sadness and perceptions are
more astute, we will see things from a holistic point of view rather
than from a partial or limited one

We all hope to be remembered, not for our failures but for our
ideals and noble expectations, not for our mistakes, but for our
efforts, not for our stupidities but for our brilliance, not for
weakness, but for our strengths and struggles, not for what
someone else thinks about us but what we think about
ourselves

One plus one may equal two in mathematics, but in feeling and
relationships one plus one equals ONE

Whenever we write something we take a risk. There is the risk
of being misunderstood due to inadequacy of expression, which means that our consciousness level does not match the other. In addition the words we use, however adroit and carefully selected may obscure rather than enlighten, may leave an impression alien
to the one intended. This seems to devolve all the responsibility on
the writer. But, the reader has responsibilities too

The meaning of a person’s history can never be known accurately or completely, even by himself

Finally, after all our journeys through this encumbered and
challenging life, after all the painful processing of our repentance, after all the heart-broken tears we have shed, and after all the soul-wrenching disappointments we have suffered, the ultimate grace is bestowed upon us: the complete healing, forgiveness and forgetting of all our errors, and the accidents of our humanness

This is the payoff of a life well-lived. It is the most blessed event of our lives and the most holy moment of eternity: All the angels hush in reverent honor, for no longer do we sit quivering and afraid, lost and alone in our sin, or broken by the vicissitudes of life, but stand ever so confident and worthy, redeemed and made whole at last, at the right side of God

Are you aware that you are special and unique, and though
you stand alone, do you still strive for the highest and best
whether others do or not?

Evelyn Underhill, that most astute specialist of the spirit, observed that the sacrifices you make to become your potential is not self-denial but self-fulfillment

Life is as much a school of discipline as it is for edification
and we should not allow the past to make pessimism the major
part of our character

The true test of character is what we do when no one is
looking

Discretion, they say, is the better part of wisdom. It is also
the better part of valor

So, you wanted to leave the world a better place than it was
when you got here, only to discover that it is worse. Are you
therefore a failure? No, you are not, for there are some battles
that, no matter how noble the intentions, are lost. But a good
cause is worth fighting for, win or lose. We may have lost the
battle, but we have not lost the war. The most important battles we fight are for self anyway. We may not have control over the world,
but we do have control over ourselves

All your efforts to change the other person failed! And so you
bow your head and go away murmuring. But when the world lays
upon you a surprising maturity you realize that it was not your purpose to change that other person, but to change yourself

Grace informs us that there is an exception to the tragedies of our
lives, and though it doesn’t completely assuage it, it teaches us to
endure to the end with hope

How long, Oh Lord, must we endure this pain? Until it ends!

The rules which an impertinent and unholy society impinge on
us cannot always hold us, for we are held by a more loving power

Man is an instrument upon which the finest music
can be played, but we have to do the fine-tuning

The illimitable message to those whose aim is toward
the light is that supreme life can be experienced only
by those of supreme being

Self- absorption can so often be misidentified as
self-realization

Selfishness is not only contempt for relationships
but contempt for one’s self

Humility is required in direct proportion to enlightenment given, and if we prefer to bask in the shadows of pride, arrogance raises its ugly head and works to mess up our lives

Let us perpetuate glad tidings to those wanting direction so
they too can climb

There are times when we must withdraw from the tumult of the crowd where our aloneness is tested by the silence. Not until we are alone, shorn of the garments of our civilized pretenses, are we exposed to the all-seeing eye of our inner being

Living the abundant life, not just survival, is our aim.

We need to clean out all that alluvial debris we collected in
our youth so that we can now make room where the divine
powers can incarnate themselves

This new kind of love that we at last come to know is not
just a superficial emotion, or a fleeting mood, but a deep
concern which cares about the ultimate outcome of things

Love’s capacitance lies in this: It never empties whilst it
is ever pouring out its energy. It is always full because it
always gives. It is always edified because it always edifies

Our task, if we are to emerge from the profane to the profound,
is to subdue more and more of those elements which are permissive of the shallow life and submit to the call and dominion of those higher forces which produce the regnant life

The real heroes of life are not those who face their adversities
without fear, but those who feel the fear, and weep the tears,
and do what they have to do anyway

The brave heart is not one which does not flutter and quiver
in the face of temptation, or whose soul is not in a quandary
when faced with two choices, both of which may be desirable, but one who is clear on his values and does not sacrifice temporary pleasures for long-term goals

Alfred North Whitehead mused, “Value is limitation.”

The best way to lose everything is to insist on having it all now

It is well, before you jump the fence where the field is broader
and the grass is greener, and the flowers more colorful and
fragrant, perhaps you should fertilize and tend your own little
plot of ground, and you will discover that it is not as barren as
as you thought it was

Doing what is our right to do often obscures what is the right
thing to do

Seldom do we go into that good night filled with heaven’s stars
and gentle breezes to refresh ourselves, but into that ornate
building where superficial people congregate indulging in meaningless conversation, superfluous laughter and dissonant
noise masquerading as music

He who abuses his body also by so doing abuses his spirit. And
both body and spirit are reprimanded

The wise words of a song which all of us would do well to follow is: “Do what is right, let the consequence follow.”

When we are plunged into a quagmire of uncertainty and confusion over our inability to live our ideals let us remember the many gifts of grace, and that grace constitutes love tied with a ribbon of mercy

To live life to the full does not mean we spend all our time in a
garden of roses with Pollyanna, but jousts with windmills with
Don Quixote

The inexorable rule of life is the onerous teaching of character,
not self-indulgence in a life of ease, which produces dolts

Grace is the attempt of God to complete the poem of life. And guess what! We are invited to be the poet

Why do we spend most of our lives and treasure in putting ourselves to sleep instead of arousing our faculties? Gurdjieff observed that most people are asleep dreaming they are awake. That doesn’t apply to you though, does it?

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Most of the time we create out of chaos, not out of order

Everyone is an artist when they are free enough to let their inner self rejoice. However they may grace the world with enchantment in the form of a painting, a picture, a building – all works of art- there is no art as beautiful as what one makes of himself.

The most noble act we can ever undertake is the creation of
ourselves in the tempestuous cauldron of heartbreak and
disappointment. This is where a god or goddess is trying to
emerge

What more does God need to do to get our attention? In all of
life and existence is a hallowed fecundity. It is all magistrated
by our sensitivities

It is not a prerequisite for observing the beauty in life and nature to deny the unseemly for I know that the positives and negatives often
exist side by side. However, I also know that the apparent should not be allowed to obscure the best

When we apprehend so much mystery let us not wallow in our perplexities, but account them as an opportunity to breach the distance between our mortality and our divinity

What if the tempest which leads to heartbreak and disappointment flail against you when you are at your weakest and most vulnerable? And the questions pile up and loudly reverberate in your ears. It is then, my dear friend, when you need to remember the words of that most understanding poet, Maria Ranier Rilke: “Be patient of all that is unresolved in your heart, and learn to love the questions themselves, and someday you will live into the answers.”

Strength to face the shattering of our lives does not usually come
full-fruited. Initially we are prone to complain as we weep and sometimes we feel plunged into a pit of despair so deep we have to reach up to touch bottom. But, bear with it – it is only temporary –
and soon or late you will emerge more noble and more great than you were before

Our capacity to suffer is often a testimony of the godliness
in our humanness

The notion in our much therapized life that it should be
pain-free is a shallow notion that banalizes life. Some agonies
are sacred, and their demonstration is an indication that we

Dancing, music, and laughter are fine in their place, and should be encouraged in a healthy setting, but when they are exaggerated, as they often are, and become deliberate attempts to artificially arouse ecstasy or fun, they are not only inappropriate but, since they have a profound effect on who we are, prevent us from becoming our best

We cannot reach the supernal in our concept of evil and
suffering by merely understanding or explaining it, but by transcending and transforming it. And we cannot transcend it or transform it until we have transcended and transformed ourselves

It has been wisely said, “Beauty is in the eye of the
beholder.” But a higher wisdom declares
that the beholder is in the eye of
beauty

Beauty awakens. And it introduces one not only to the
miracle of his outer seeing, but the majesty of his inner
being

Beauty is a witness to our ascendancy where the whole
of life is vivified

When we behold beauty, we have been recipients of a
special revelation of our symbiotic relationship with
everything

There are divine appropriations available to everyone.
But to obtain them we must become ardent lovers of
beauty and goodness. Life affords opportunities galore
to experience our most sublime sensitivities

When you inspect that flower, or watch that hovering
cloud, or cup that contoured face, remember they possess a most remarkable and mysterious ability to sensitize you, a reward for your attention. And suddenly, without any expectation at
all, you are splendorized

Do you not hear that voice which whispers, oh so very quietly, yet profoundly, “You are the child of my ultimate concern. You are so greatly loved and cherished. Be patient with yourself as I am patient with you.”

That nature which has built man is not so disrespectful or
aggrandizing that she overwhelms him with what he cannot
do, but invites him to be creative and to make his own miracles
out of the raw materials she has so lavishly provided him

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Some people see beauty in a flower, a sunset, a cloud, a
face. Some see nothing at all. Therefore, its what you see that tells what you are

Unless we undertake to drastically rearrange
current personality, it will eventually be taken over
by nefarious powers. This is not intended to frighten you, but to alert you. He who has ears, let him hear!

There are some among us, particularly those who are very
religious, who just wait for God to do it all. Apparently they
have never heard of, or taken to heart, the injunction: “God
helps those who help themselves.”

The less conscious among us wrongly assume that if
they elevate their consciousness they lose themselves
and become like another. Oh, No! They actually find
themselves and become more of themselves. It is then
they realize there is complementarity in diversity

Not until we disconnect from the pull of the phenomenal world
will we then feel the pull toward higher consciousness

Most of our powers are unused because we are asleep

Isn’t it strange that the things that mean least have the most
powerful pull on us while the things that mean most are very
subtle

Do you sometimes wonder why you are enriched beyond measure by this person, but not that one, that you experience your highest potencies with this person but not that one, that you are lofted into joy with this person, but not that one? Even though that one is eminently worthy? Could it be that the laws of affinity are active?

Monday, May 12, 2008

The concept of finality attributes death to the law of
entropy, which seems inexorable. But, is it? Cannot we
in our finer moments suspect that it is a temporary law circumscribed by a higher one? Astute philosophers, mystics,
saints, spiritual adepts, great teachers, prophets, and others,
in every age insists that it is

We need to be skeptical about our skepticism

Historical science has been considered a sacred cow and
has concluded that facts are determined by empiricism,
but modern science is more humble and awed by their new
discoveries that what we perceive with our physical senses
is not all the reality there is

There are transitional phases in life which make
pre-evidences relative and current evidences invalid.
When our metamorphosis is complete and we at last
emerge we gladly behold new laws incidental to a new
state of being

What is visible, influential or authoritative, is not
necessarily authentic

If you want to be there, you have to first be here

The poet says it best. And there is poetry in the
words of this song: “There is beauty all around
when there’s love at home. There is joy in every
sound when there’s love at home. Peace and plenty
here abide, there is love on every side. Time does softly,
sweetly glide when there’s love at home.”

You can make of your home either a hell or a haven.
You can make it a place of harmony or of contention.

Sometimes we meet on our path that rare person
who enriches us. And though we will never see him again, let us hope that we have enriched him, too

Becoming an artist of the infinite life is accessible to
all, but it must be searched for

Our greatest challenge is how to confer a salubrious
effect upon the whole even though some of its parts
may be influenced by man’s unholy influences

When we draw our conclusions about life let us
draw them from the whole and not just the part,
from the context and not just the appearance

It is not enough to just observe beauty in the world,
or to understand what good is, but to live them

The recognition of grandeur, holiness, affinity, beauty
and love in the world, is but the recognition of
those attributes in ourselves

Those of us who ponder deeply eventually arrive
at the question, “If there is a God, why is there so
much suffering and death in the world?” Cannot we deduce from
this fact a divine intentionality in it all, and a challenge to think deeper?

Rather than being intimidated by higher consciousness,
why doesn’t the ordinary mind see an opportunity to
rise above itself, and thus become extraordinary?

Friday, May 9, 2008

Wisdom may be the gateway to which we understand
life, but love is life, and needs no understanding

We need to develop a transcendental consciousness;
otherwise we will continue to live at the low level of
superficial preferences

When you establish your Source you will find yourself

We do live in a culture of mediocrity and superficiality.
However, we need to remind ourselves of the ancient
saying that we may be in the world but we should not be of the world

Our perceptions change as we grow older. Once upon a
time I was, oh so very young and thought time would
never end. Now that I’m older I wonder how quickly I
got from there to here

What may be recognized as the final truth may
only be a kernel of truth, or perhaps not even the
truth at all

Our ruminations are as temporal as the life surrounding
them, and with further enlightenment be revised or replaced

Behind our perceived follies lies a divine provocation
which fulfils a destiny not originally seen

What to our jaundiced eye may seem to be purposeless
may, in the eternal scheme of things be purposeful

Thursday, May 8, 2008

It costs more work to disentangle our entanglements
than it did to make them

So, you’ve succeeded in messing up your life!
Are you going to just let it sit there, or are you
going to change it? The choice is yours!

No, it isn’t easy. But it is attainable

It isn’t a matter of just having a positive mental
attitude, but aligning yourself with the ultimate
facts

What atheists think is the extension of thought
to the ultimate is really only the beginning of thought

Someone once said that if we don’t understand something, instead of rejecting it, just build an imaginary box marked, “To be reconsidered later when I have more knowledge and
wisdom,” and put the dilemma in it

Isn’t it amusing that some so-called enlightened people manufacture complex explanations of things they don’t understand, but are under
the illusion that they do

Yes, you have come far. But you still have a long
way to go

What may be good under some conditions may
be bad in others, and vice versa

Wisdom may be the gateway to which we understand
life, but love is life, and needs no understanding

The Sayings of Alfred

Look for love and you will find God

If you want a happy marriage learn to give
more than you get

Forgiveness is divine ‘tis true, but in this
mortality it is a necessity

Search diligently for the truth, and you will
find Love

Be kind to yourself and you will be kind
to one another

Goodness is greater than talent

Character is greater than intellect

The purpose of Life is to learn to Love

One who loses the desire to accept blessing
or to be a blessing has emptied himself
Prospect and portent, not event, is the most
important content of a person’s life

As with people, one cannot recognize the seed
unless he knows the flower

One should look back only to glean the wisdom
to move forward

The only thing we should abandon is our
sins

Good luck often consists of merely seizing
the opportunity

What one knows may not always represent
what one is

What one is may not always reveal what one
is becoming

We should learn to see not only with our
eyes, but with our souls

What we are is a challenge to become what
we ought

Not until we begin our search for God does
He begin His search for us

When we at last find that which was lost, that
which was lost at last finds us

Does one calculate the worth of an individual by
the distance he has fallen, or from the height to which
he has risen after the fall?

Man is not a passive being victimized by circumstances
but an active being who chooses what he shall become

If we choose not to choose, then we live our life by
accident instead of on purpose

When we at last awaken we realize not merely the
surface of our minds, but the depths of our souls

Learn to know the difference between intellect and
intelligence

The world we see without is a reflection
of the world we see within

What is temptation other than an invitation
to bondage

The Final Judgment is designed for the
unjudgment of men

When we have judged another we have
judged ourselves

Knowledge from books is good, but knowledge
from experience, though often painful, is great

Wisdom is better than knowledge, but one cannot
have wisdom without knowledge

Seek not for riches or fame, but rather seek
for understanding

We all hunger and thirst for food and drink,
But how many of us hunger and thirst
for righteousness

To bask in the light all we have to do is turn away
from the shadow of darkness

To eat, drink, and be merry may be alright for awhile,
but to indulge it as a lifestyle is to forfeit who
we really are

The folly of youth is that the youthful think it is boundless
The folly of age is that it attempts to recapture its youth

Good books, good food and a good spouse are priceless,
but not necessarily in that order

Big bank accounts, big houses, and fancy cars may inflate
our egos, but not our characters

Love of the true, the good, and the beautiful is
the essence of life. Lack of them is the denigration
of it

The earth is a beautiful place. But it was built that way.
Man can be beautiful too. But he has to make himself
that way

“Let there be light, and there was light” means more
than that the sun was created. Man was also created. The sun fulfils the measure of it’s creation automatically,
but man gets to create his.

God’s ultimate concern is with the person, not
the circumstances surrounding the person

It is said that he who breaks the Ten Commandments is broken by them. Therefore man should live by The Ten Commandments,
and not rebel against them for they are made, not to inhibit him,
but to bless him

Essence is superior to form or appearances

To substitute a person for a concept is to reduce
him to a mere definition

The greatest challenge anyone will ever face in any one
lifetime is to swallow his pride when he knows he has
done wrong, to at last come to himself, as did the
prodigal, and have the courage to go back home.

Do you see the world as it is, or as you invented it?

We need to be careful what we believe about another
lest we project on him what we believe about ourselves.

We may need to escape from a lot of things, but we need
most to escape from our illusions

Is your heart broken? Have you lost your faith and
trust? Then put a little love into your cup of
bitterness like you would put a little sugar in your
coffee

Oh! So the one you offer love and forgiveness has
rejected it. No matter. The purpose of love and
forgiveness is for you, not just for them

The eye of the soul has the power to see into eternity
while the eye of the body only has power to see what
lies immediately before it

Our choice will either bring peace and joy or chaos and
disaster. Have you decided what you really want from
your choice?

Far astray are those who look upon those few among us as elitist who are more idealistic than they, who think more profoundly and feel more deeply

Our search for the noble and great in life is primarily
a search for ourselves

Do not follow the crowd for they will lead you where
they want to go, which is usually far away from where
you want to go

Decide what you want to be or others or circumstances
will decide for you, and the results many not be to your liking

Be a gift-giver. But, be careful, for what you give to others,
you give to yourself

The wisest man who ever lived said to love God, love
others, AND LOVE YOURSELF. If you do the first two
but neglect the last, you have not done it to any

So much of our time is occupied in anxious attention to colorful
ads, false promises of pompous politicians and the
glitzy entertainments of popular celebrities! But, when
was the last time you took a good look at this beautiful
earth and felt enchanted and enriched by it?

The next time you feel inclined to go to a party to “have fun”or be
entertained, instead go hug a tree, or meditate upon a
waterfall, or listen to a bird’s song. Then compare it with
all the other things and see how you feel

We need to be looked into, not merely looked at. We
long with an exquisite yearning to be known for
who we really are at our best, not who we are perceived to be
when we were at our worst

When we have desacralized ourselves we have lost
our capacity to be splendorized. We have disconnected
from our metaphysical affinities and thus have lost the
freedom to be who we really are.

Have you ever wondered about the difference
between communication and communion? If you haven’t,
think about it!

Greatness is forged in the maelstrom of sorrow and
suffering. But, alas, so is weakness. The difference is
the condition of your soul

We humans seem to be so satisfied with the common
and ordinary, the familiar and the plain, and yet, don’t you feel
a strange and inexplicable pull toward the supernal? Isn’t there a strange tug upon you to become more than you are – to reach for the highest and best, no matter how hard?

The love between a man and a woman is a many splendored
thing, ‘tis true, but only temporarily so. It is very fragile and
subject to the vicissitudes of life. In order to keep it, it must
be worked on constantly lest it slip away and become ugly.

There are times when nothing seems to go right and we feel
life must be in a conspiracy to disappoint and defeat us. And
then we tend to chafe at life. Perhaps what we need to do is
change our perceptions – there are after-all more than just one
perspective.

When we feel broken, maybe it’s because we need to be
put back together again differently.

It has been said by one in a moment of despair that life is a
terminal disease. If so we should go about
trying to find a cure rather than just submitting to it.

When we find ourselves in a ‘woe is me’ attitude
perhaps we need to submit ourselves more to the tutelage
of God

It has been said that we are not only human beings,
but human becomings. It is not, therefore, as important
what we are but what we are in the process of
becoming

Do good, not because you have to, or because you ought to, or because of some theological doctrine or principle, but because it is the natural consequence of the kind of person you have become

None of like to be disciplined. When we are we tend to
bring out our arsenal of defenses and blast away in an
attempt to justify ourselves. Maybe, instead, we should
try to elevate ourselves.

There are some people, who account themselves as religious,
who read only the scriptures and never think for themselves.
While it is true that the best source of knowledge and wisdom comes from true prophets, seers and revelators that is no reason for failing to tap into our own personal experience or learning to listen to the still small voice within us. For we are divine, too! Let us remember also that there is great wisdom to be found in great books written by great minds.

When I have a difference of opinion it is not that
I disrespect you but that I want not to disrespect
myself

I wonder sometimes if people have opinions or
if opinions have them

The telescope through which I view the world
is not more powerful or focused than yours, but that I see
a different galaxy

I am not nearly as impressed with high IQ, talent
or ability as I am with noble character

Someone has wisely said that one should not
sacrifice the things that matter most for the
things that matter least
Often our choices are not between right and wrong
but between what is most appropriate

I am sometimes chagrined by people who talk
rapidly as if such rapidity supports their opinion,
or loudly as if decibels constitute validity

If you are sometimes accused of being too sensitive
just remember such an accusation probably came from
an insensitive person

We too often believe what others think of us
rather than what we think of ourselves

To be or not to be is not the question! How to be the
best we can be is

People sometimes fail in this world not because they
are the worst but because they are the best

Isn’t it interesting how some people try to control what
is uncontrollable instead of trying to understand why
things are the way they are? Or if they can’t, just accept them

My daughter once reminded me to stop trying to
be the manager of the universe; that job is already
taken

One who is quiet may seem passive, but often
his mind is running rampant. Therefore, do not
judge such a person as boring. He is engaged in ghostly work and just may be the most interesting and worthwhile person you ever met

True genius is not he who masters data
quickly but he who loves genuinely

When one is in travail he is usually seeking.
Hesitate, therefore to judge him merely depressed
but, rather, one who is struggling for answers

I often remind myself of the quip: “Just what makes
you think anybody is interested in what you think?”
Then I am reminded that we live in a world made up
mostly of superficial people. If that is what you find,
learn to love them anyway, then let them go and focus on the few who relate to you

When we cultivate the latent powers within us
we transcend our normal consciousness which deludes us that what we perceive with our mortal senses is all the reality there is

It is often said by well-intentioned people to just
“have fun” in whatever we do. But be careful of the
expense for too much indulgence “in fun” may lead
to a habit which imprisons us

Laughter and gayety and fun help us to experience
our humanness, which is a good thing, but not if we
forfeit our capacity for contemplation, which is part
of our humanness, too.

Balance in all that we do is the hallmark of wisdom

The atheist is one who has attached to himself
an omniscience he does not deserve, and is therefore
the epitome of absolute arrogance

We live in a culture which worships competence.
But how do we look upon one who feels inadequate?
What about a broken heart and a contrite spirit?

Have you noticed how readily one who exists at a
lower consciousness level is quick to ridicule those
who live at a higher one?

O.K. Let’s be bluntly honest. We recognize the superior and inferior in everything in nature – except in man. In his case we
expect everybody to be like everyone else. Let someone
sit, for example, in the presence of one who speaks
eloquently, who challenges us to think deeper than we
are accustomed to, and we go away murmuring epithets, superbly
unaware that there is a profound difference between simpleness and simplicity. How readily do such persons become offended by superiority. Instead of elevating themselves they condemn themselves by criticizing others

In moments of repose the disingenuous among us may honor
the noble and great but their hearts are far from them.

Don’t you think it’s rather incongruous that we tend to pay tribute to the noble and great ones of the past whilst ignoring or ridiculing the ones in our presence

Oh, you may by your adroit maneuvering, superior
knowledge and keener intellect, win the argument,
and go away proud of yourself. But what you don’t
know is that you may have just shot yourself in the foot
and lost the relationship. If this has happened to you,
you may want to take another look at your values

Defeat comes in many guises. When you think
you have won you may have actually lost. But the reverse may
also be true: When you think you have lost you may actually
have won. Isn’t life full of paradoxes?

The personality of each of us is far deeper than we
commonly allow. It is our task in life to plumb those
depths and bring to the surface those faculties of the soul
which enrich our lives

When we are close to our God we are close to ourselves.
When we are far from Him we are far from ourselves.

Freud believed that there are dark shadows lurking
in our sub-conscious mind. But modern psychology
has acknowledged as fact that there is light there
which dissipates that darkness. It is up to us whether
we turn it on, or off

There are approximately 90,000 words in the 1988
Third College Edition of Webster’s New World
Dictionary. However, the five most important words
you will ever utter, if they are said sincerely, are these:
“I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”

The most scurrilous and damaging words you can
utter, if done insincerely, is “I love you.”

The relevance to any life and to any relationship is
sincerity

Yes, hurtful things are said and done which are not our
choice. But wallowing in it is.

Why is it a child goes wayward, a friend or spouse betrays
us, we fail ourselves? It is because we are all part of the
same family, and what affects one affects all. All of life is symbiotic and synergistic. Therefore don’t you think we have a great responsibility to each other, and to ourselves?

Have you noticed that there is so much casual thought, often articulately expressed, but so little deep pondering?

The tragedy of our time is our loss of the sublime

The major problems of our time is not in finding
their solutions, but in growing up or waking up
so as to prevent the problems in the first place

So many of us are in need of recovery, but many of us
deny the need, or put it off. We pay lip-service to
higher consciousness but are afraid of the heights to
which it may lead us. Consequently, we prefer to stay
in the comfortable hole we have made for ourselves and
poke fun at those who have climbed the mountain.

If a spiritually advanced being reminds us of our
challenges, it is not to criticize us, but to tap our
inner resources for rectitude. It is a demonstration
of love. If you don’t want to be loved,
then you are doomed to stay where you are.

Being a modern day saint does not mean we have
forfeited our humanness, but that we honor it so
much that we are willing to be humble in order that
we can become what is highest in our humanness

Let us become the gods and goddesses we were intended
to become. And which we have the capacity to be. For there
is more! Don’t you see, there is so much more

Beware of what influences you. For we become, in very
subtle fashion, what we are influenced by

Truth is not just perceived, it is encountered.
But it is not encountered internally until time and maturity
have perfected our perceptions. Complete truth is an experience,
not just a comprehension

The greatest need in life is to learn to really listen, and not
just to talk, talk, talk.
